A quick 24 hour stopover in Kuala Lumpur en route to Borneo was taken up with a lot of shopping for English books (a huge Borders with a Starbucks cafe just made my day) and a water proof camera for diving! Our friend Mal and Sylvie joined us there (after much arm twisting from us and talk of how amazing diving in Borneo was going to be) and we did a whistle stop tour taking in Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, the Petronas Towers and the markets in Chinatown.

After a very long and dusty local bus journey, with a few near disasters involving cows and motorbikes we arrived into Siem Reap and the highlight of most people's trip to Cambodia with the Angkor Temples. Phnom Penh was the main focus of Pol Pot when he decided to eradicate all 'new people' in the cities and bring Cambodia back to Year Zero. Phnom Penh became a ghost town overnight back in the 70s and the S 21 museum and Killing Fields are really tragic sites to visit. Phu Quoc island is a slice of paradise! It's a small island off the bottom of Vietnam which the Vietnamese are planning to develop the hell out of.But at the moment it's mainly just a very long beach of white sand and turquoise blue sea with some beach bungalows and a few restaurants dotted about and not a lot else aside from palm trees.
