Two nights were spent at Cobbold Gorge before travelling to Chillagoe to visit the Chillagoe Caves. Visits to a few of the caves were by guided tour only however, others exist that were not. The camping grounds and facilities at Cobbold Gorge were a real pleasant surprise. We arrived here yesterday to find that it had an infinity pool that overlooked a dam and the bush beyond. Just up from the pool was the bar and dining area - it was really inviting! We visited the Undara Lava Tubes today and they did not dissapoint. The lava tubes are tunnels of rock that formed during historical volcanic events. Of the lava that flowed along creeks and depressions, that near the surface cooled quicker than that below. We had planned to visit the Undara Lava Tubes today however learnt that visits to the site were by guided tour only. The earliest we were able to book a tour was tomorrow morning which meant that we had a day up our sleeve to explore the area. We chose to take a day trip to a tiny town called Einasleigh. Today was a day spent travelling from Lake Tinaroo to Mount Surprise.
