Hi Everyone!!!! At the moment I am sat in a hut in the middle of nowhere, have just showered inother hut in the middle of nowhere and will be sleeping in atent about 5 minutes away from where Lions are!!!
This has been the most amazing day so if the rest of the safari goes the same, I will be a happy bunny! Got to Jo'burg safe and sound Yesterday (21st) and met up with the shuttle bus to take us to the hostel, along with 5 others who were all doing our 25 day safari! Hostel was quite a good standard (apparently! It was my first time!) and after meeting up with another couple we ventured into town (sorry mom!) But it was perfectly safe and we got some money changed and bought some grub. We even bought the ingredients to make spag bol for the 7 of us for tea! Nom nom! Everyones really friendly so the first night was really good. Played pool - girls versus boys, and yes...they won! We didn't have too much of a late night and went back to our mixed dorm, which slept 15 of us!
It was an early start as we had to be on the road for 7am to drive some 500km to the Greater Kruger area where our camp site is for the next 2 nights. Quite a long journey but eventually we got here and it is AMAZING!! Just wait until I put the pictures on! We had a welcome drink and set off on a game drive at about 4.30pm which ran until about 8pm. It truly was a fantastic experience and the very first thing we saw was a male Lion, just feet away! We also saw loads of elephants, some cheetah, a giraffe and a few others!! Took about a million photos so will try to whittle them down when I put them on here! All good in the hood until it turned dark and the bloody spiders made an apperance! Luckily the fab little bar here has cider (not Bow Laura, but hey, it is Africa!) so I could settle my nerves slightly before tea.
An even earlier start awaits us tomorrow so it won't be a late night tonight. We are going to the Kruger National Park so we hope to see the remaining Big 5!
Sorry it's quite a frantic message but need to hand over the internet to someone else now and then I'm off to my tent but I just wanted to let you know that we got here safe, have met loads of fab people already and can't wait to see what tomorrow holds!!
Will get pics on here asap but not expecting many camp sites to be a plush as this one! Hope you are all ok back home, take care and I'll be in touch as soon as poss.
Lots of love
Nic
