Left apartment with Nav lady in charge, zig zagging straight up hillside on very narrow concrete roads. Very steep to suddenly appear on the motorway and heading through a 5 km tunnel then off to the town of Hum and a wild goose chase looking for sculptures to please the driver ! Awake early, 4am. Walked along seaside promenade (called Lungomare) for about 12km. Through groves of pines and oak trees, above were massive seafront houses/palaces of the rich and famous. Small coves along the way which you could stop and swim at. Got a bus back to Lovran from Opatija. Hot and sunny and water warm. Back to villa for a quick rest as all feeling a bit tired.

Survived 17 hours, Auckland/Doha. 7 hours in Doha in middle of night, 2 year old airport, state of the art design, flash expensive shops.
