Survived 17 hours, Auckland/Doha. 7 hours in Doha in middle of night, 2 year old airport, state of the art design, flash expensive shops. Tim and Charlotte amused themselves going back and forth on automated electric mono rail. No sleep, a long wait !
6 Hours to Zagreb, another brand new airport. Blown away as we were the only plane there initially, quite small. Croatian car rental very helpful but talked very fast and hard to understand. Car pick up right hand drive, couple of quick spins up the road the wrong way and blocking a bus, but after that hiccup we were on our way. Motorway through to Lovran, 2-3 lanes all the way, very new and flash. Heaps of tunnels, some up to 1km long. Speed 130km, us at 120 were the slowest on motorway. GPS a godsend to find this place. Lovran a village on steep hillside sloping to sea, lots of massive old seaside villas all with shuttered Windows and balconies. A lot in dis repair but still cool looking. Brief walk along promenade to old town. Drink in bar, dinner where Charlotte fell asleep at the table and walk back to bed. Villa up around 300 odd steps which takes you down to small swimming beach. Janet had another 3 flights of stairs to her apartment on top floor !!!
All exhausted.
