Choppers Travels
Arrived in new south wales yesterday (first stop byron bay ) after a couple of days in Surfers paradise (ok, i know that surfers is in queensland but it's only an hour away so i'm putting it with this postcard, mainly cos i'm a rebel).
tried surfing whilst in surfers, they give you a massive foam board so that you can stand up even when not moving (if you're as skillful as me that it), it was pretty good fun and i will definately be doing it again. To celebrate we went out on the beer that night (3 dollars for a jim beam and coke), nic got ID'd and was refused entry into a club (she loved it, not often a 26 year old gets confused for a 17 yr old!!). Despite nics underage drinking we managed to stay out till about 4am, not too clever concididering we had to be up for the 10 am bus.
arrived in byron bay yesterday, hung over and ready for bed, however we hard cored the day and went for a walk to the lighthouse (the most eastern point in australia, exciting hey).
after an hour or so of walking through the rain forest (i didn't realise that there was an easy road walk, doh!) we came across a hang glider launch pad with amazing views of the sea (we saw more humpback wales, so amazing). As luck would have it there was a hang gliding instructor about to take off and he offered me and nic a go, well it would be inpolite to refuse so we both went hang gliding for half an hour. It is so amazing, it's hard to describe but it's definately something i will be doing again.
i was really lucky because we got caught in an updraft that sent us flying vertical at 400ft a minute, we ended up about 800ft in the air, this is when my instructor decided to show off a bit and do some tricks, he was banking left and right, speading down towards the trees, the g force was quite strong, you can feel your weight straining against your harness, very bizare.
i have some pictures and will post them on the site as soon as i get a computer that lets me do it.
Still haveing a great time.
have a gooden
matt and nic
