We took the coast road from San Marinella for the first couple of hours and then the express way to our destination Sorrento, where we had booked into the Ulisyse for a two night stay. We passed one crop after another along the way, no live stock; but fields of colorful crops; tomatoes, grape vines, olive trees, fig trees, wheat crops, peach and apricot trees, corn and vegetables. Not to mention the fields of sun flowers, which were also prominent in France.
Once we by-passed Naples, the scenery became more and more beautiful. The mountains met the clear, shimmering, blue Mediterranean sea. Scatterings of picturesque ancient villages littered the hill sides; buildings, castles, churches and village squares. We stopped the car in several places to breath in this amazing sight. Such beauty!!
We weaved our way through tunnels and around hairpin bends, along this long strech of coastal road to our destination, Sorrento. The narrow road reminded me of the beauty of the Great Ocean Road of home.
Finally we arrived at the Ulyses, a very elegant hostel in a great location, perfect for our stay.
The Ulisyse advertise free internet, we were once again disappointed to find it was was non existent; our devises connected to their server but that's where it stopped. This happen to us in a number of location before, such as The Barry in Barcelona. When checking with reception we were given the same line, "it's not the hotel the whole area is down", or, "it's broken down, because it is the weekend we can't get a technitian in till Monday". We used our own personal internet data sparingly as it is very expensive to run, for us this became a bug bear (or is it bug bare? ). "I wonder what the Internet is like here" we would ask each other as we came to a new place. The price we paid for accommodation had little bearing on the quality of Internet service. Nevertheless, this did not spoil our couple of days here. Sorrento is a great base to watch the world go by. We soaked up the atmosphere of this wonderful place, walking, swimming, eating and drinking the mandatory local Lemoncelo.
There's always a touch of sadness leaving new place you love, but again we have new adventures to explore and we are yet to discover the legend of the Amalfi Coast. It did not disappoint and we spent the final day traveling the 180 km along it, stopping at picturesque but overcrowded Positano and having a cool swim at one of the town's local beaches along the way.
Checking one of my Italian accommodation Apps, 'Cerca' we found accommodation a B&B in our next stay in Salerno. Just on the other side the coast This would be our first stop in exploring the South of Italy.
The weather here is consistently dry and hot and we haven't seen any rain since Paris. Consistent is not what I would describe Melbourne's weather, so we are enjoying this aspect of it.
Hope you're all keeping warm at home!! Lots of love, Nella & Leigh.

Jenny Hi guys, well yes the weather here....at least we are off snow shoeing tomorrow up to Lake Mountain where there is now snow. last weekend the 5 of us went to Port Fairy and stayed in a large cottage and did a fantastic walk through Mt eccles NP which was very green and spongy under foot with all the rain. The area is known for its volcanic lava flows and the dry stone walls were beautiful all covered with mosses ranging from pale green to deep dark green. travel well love jenny and Chris xxx
