So I made it to Samoa, landed about 5am, which isn't as bad as it sounds as that was about 8am LA time. However, at 5am I stepped off the plane and just started sweating! It was so gross! It's so hot, i love it! Just wasn't loving it dressed in trackies from the overnight flight.
Jumped straight in the pool as soon as i arrived at the hotel, followed by breakfast of fresh mango and cocounts form the trees!
Spent the day sunbathing really, had a bit of a potter round town but there's not much to see, so I soon got bored and went to the beach. found a beach that had a "marine reserve". Not really but it meant they could charge (30p!) to get in, and the snorkelling was pretty nice. EXCEPT, there I was swimming along, snapping away with underwater camera. Thinking to myself, Wow, I've never know fish to be so unbothered by humans, there were just so unaware and not swimming away. Cool, I thought, nice pictures etc. Then suddenly this b****** fully BITES me!! Drew blood and everything, so then I freaked that sharks might want me. Anyway, apparently my squeal from the bite was louder than I realised (am also guessing it came up thruogh my snorkel!), and i lost my flip flops in the 'fight' with the fish. This NZ lady came wading in and rescued my flip flops, which was nice of her else i'd have been walking home shoe-less. They told me when I got out that there's a species of fish that bites when it's having babies. Thanks, nice to know. So, am now nursing my war wound better. The hotel I'm staying in is also full of medical students doing their electives here, so they were offering me all this stiff to put on it, but I've devided it's fine!
So as traumatic as my day was, it was nice to meet that NZ family as they've been living here 6 months so told me cool stuff to do tomorrow, which included taking a local bus! Hmmmmm, we'll see. Wasn't enthused futher when she said 'don't be surprised if the locals sit on you lap, it's what they do on buses here'. Now in that every Samoan I've met so far looks like he could easily play for their National rugby side, I not so sure about this bus trip.
