Nat and Beck Go Large!
We arrived in Salta about 1am on Friday night, after a day and a half on the buses from Iguazu. Luckily, Becky's passport had arrived from Buenos Aires (it's a long story, but to cut it short, Becky and Cherise had managed to get their passports mixed up and we had to get both of them couried through Argentina, otherwise neither could leave the country!) Panic over lost identity over, we were then told we probably wouldn't be able to get a bus to Bolivia, as all the Bolivian bus drivers had gone on strike! Bolivia is not the type of place you want to be stuck in when there's no guarantee of you getting out any time soon, so we had to cancel our plans to go there, which we were quite gutted about, as the Salt Lakes there are supposed to be spectacular.
We changed our plans to go straight to Peru, but because of the bus stike, we have to go the long way round via Chile, which is going to take us about 2 days! And as the buses only run twice a week, we had a day in Salta to kill before we could start! You need a lot of time to go anywhere on this continent!
So on Saturday, we went sightseeing around Salta, which is actually quite a nice town, there's a nice square where we had lunch, reminded us of Seville in Spain with all the orange trees around, and we also went up the cable car to see the view over the city, and then walked the 1000 steps back down to the town. That night, we polished off the Bombay Sapphire gin from Fiji (yes we've still got it!) with the boys in our room, and sat upstairs in the freezing cold bar for a bbq and listened to the band playing traditional music.
Our bus was at 7am this morning - god knows what time we'll arrive in Peru!!!
