Today is the day I go to collect my little Papy up from the airport in Bangkok!
I woke up to Katrina leaving the room for her bus, she tried to say goodbye, but as I do not like goodbyes I just said I'd see her tonight, we're both going to be in Bangkok anyway so hopefully we will get a chance to bump in to each other!
I then took the opportunity to walk round the room in the nudda, i haven't been able to since I began my travels, for obvious reasons, and it was just so bloody hot in that room. I packed at a slow pace and taught myself how to do a french plait, they went rather well for a first attempt, so I was pretty chuffed with myself.
Making my way down stairs to check out I suddenly realised I might not recognise the tuktuk driver from the previous day... Not a fun thought. He had been lovely whilst taking us around the temples and I trusted him to take me to the airport and didn't really want to give another tuktuk driver my money. I was not to worry though, he bounded in to the hostel when he saw me and took my bag for me, adorable.
I enjoyed the ride to the airport, people watching for the half hour journey, going through local areas. Arriving at the airport the tuktuk driver did not have change for my $10 note, so I took $2 in change, as opposed to the $5, and gave him my riel, it's useless to me anyway.
Once in the airport the Chinese pissed me off. They had unnecessarily loud voices, shouting at each other, I like indoor voices, I don't feel the need to shout when a person is next to me. They pushed and shoved people out the way and practically pushed me off the end of the bench I was sitting on.
Whilst waiting for my flight check in to open, I got chatting to two girls, I can't remember their names but they were really interesting to talk to. It was nice to have a friendly face waiting for the plane in around the airport.
The aeroplane was TINY, 17 rows, and the wing was above the windows? Weird. We were in the air for 50 minutes and I got a lovely little packed lunch of egg sandwiches, cake and water. I like this flight.
Arriving in Bangkok I swiftly moved through the airport and awaited papypups arrival. It took rather a long time, but I put my time to good use and caught up with this blog thing.
Once she came through the gate I almost didn't recognise her at first, and then when it registered I got rather excited! We went for a cigarette and decided to get the train to our hostel, @hualumpong that we stayed in when we were in Bangkok the first time 4 years ago on our last night. The stupid train women told us the wrong stop so we got charged 40 bahts more than we needed to be charged. Only 40 bahts but annoying, especially since we only had very limited funds on us as we needed a cash machine. We got to the end of the line and realised the mistake, we then went back on ourselves and got to the station that we needed to get the metro from. After an aggravating train experience that took a lot longer than necessary, we emerged from the underground, and arrived outside our hostel.
Checking in was easy and the room clean and nice, we went to get a milo milk and sat on a wall having a catchup. We decided to go get showered an changed and make our way to kho san road. There we had a really good pad Thai and some mojitos and got a little merry. It was a great feeling walking down kho San road, seeing somewhere that we knew so well from our previous travels and all the bright lights and hustle and bustle.
After dinner we went for a walk, did a little bit of shopping and decided to go for another drink. My god, the place we went for a drink was ridiculous. The music was so loud that we were just sitting there, unable to even talk to each other because we couldn't hear a word the other said, when we left my hearing was so muffled, not ideal in the slightest.
We decided to go back to the hostel as we were both tired from travelling and we needed to get up and get our flight the next day. It was not the smoothest journey back, no one would take us on the metre, which is a rip off. When we did find a driver he took us to the wrong place, we then realised we had mispronounced the train station we were aiming to go. Eventually we made it back and in to bed, the bed was comfy and I slept good.
