The next morning we made our way another 6 hours north on another stupidly cheap (213 baht) bus to Chiang Mai. The songathew driver managed to drop us totally our the way of the corner inn hostel, but after 20 mins tash's slightly calmer approach to the situation got us to the right place.
Chiang Mai seems to be the hub of the North and we loved it so much more than Bangkok, it had all the heticness but hadn't lost its charm. we spent the first evening in the night markets, where I cooed over every stall.
The next day we went to the 3D art museum, at £8 each it really blew our budget but was totally worth it. Three floors of an old department store were full of the most epic paintings that you could just put yourself into. We had hours of fun playing around in it.
On our third day we booked a day trip, 850 baht got us picked up from our hostel and taken out to a orchid farm and butterfly place, then on to some elephant riding before an hour hike up to a little waterfall. After lunch we went 'white water rafting' although I think New Zealand may kick thai's arse here. To finish we were chucked onto some bamboo rafts for a 10 min float down the river. All in all a good day and get what you pay for. Highlight had to be crossing the river on a cage attached to a zip line!
