I seem to have got rather lazy with blog updates recently!
We made it to Cambodia, and managed to get our visas done ourselves rather than paying off the bus driver, who pays off immigration, to do your visas without you present.... Dodgy indeed.
Our first stop is Phnom Penh, it's probably not our favourite city, quite dirty, smoggy and full of people bugging you. We spent yesterday doing our classic city wander, trying out the markets and a few pagodas. One thing we were happy to be reunited with was good street food noodles! Although after our lunchtime market success we tried a roadside place for dinner and I'm 99% sure we had BBQ'd chicken feet. At least not as bad as Tash trying a fertilised duck egg, the only thing ever to turn my stomach!!
Today we hired a tuk tuk for the day and went to the killing fields, the audio tape talked you around the site and through the background to the genocide. It was pretty somber to be walking along paths where you could see fragments of bone and bits of clothing that were coming up from the number of mass graves. After lunch we also went around the S-21 museum. Not as well set up as the fields, but none the less full of stories and chilling to see how old class rooms had been turned into torture cells.
So not the happiest, but a very enlightening day. Tomorrow we're moving on to Battambang :)
