We arrived in Rome on Sunday and took a taxi from the train station to our apartment. The taxi ride was interesting and, without having any idea where we were going, we just had to trust the driver would get us there safely! Fortunately he did and we were met and shown around the apartment we had booked by Alberto.
We are in a neighbourhood area where the locals sit outside and play chess or drink coffee or wine. The weather has been reasonable, about 12 degrees during the days much like a clear Canberra winter's day really.
We have walked all over the city as the location of our apartment seems to be in the middle of all the major sites. We were meant to do a tour of the Colosseum on Monday but parts of it were closed so we have moved that to tomorrow (Wednesday). Today we spent most of the day at the Vatican Museums and were in the Sistine Chapel for over an hour. There is a lot to be said for touring in winter over here. The queues are non existent or small and most of the time there is room to move around in the sites. Today was a good example of that. We were able to wander around the Sistine Chapel just gazing up at the frescos and moving from one end to the other without much hassle at all.
Tomorrow we head back to the Colosseum for our delayed tour and then on Thursday we will go and do St Peters basilica and that will be it for this visit to Rome.
Will add some pictures to a new album to show you some of the sights we have seen.

Angela Good to know that there are few people about and that yu are able to view things with ease. Cold wind here for 2 days (more like winter!) Looking forward to your return.
