Since I last wrote we have been spoiling ourselves cruising round Halong Bay and testing our physical abilities on a trek in the mountains in Sapa. Halong bay is out of this world! (Photos to come i promise). We sailed through this spectacular collection of islands in a small wooden boat that holds 14 passengers. There were cabins with views like you can't imagine and then a deck on top, dedicated to sunbathing. We could swim in the sea, sunbathe and eat to our hearts content. Need I say more? Our next trip from the bustling town of Hanoi was to Sapa, which is THE most amazing place. It is in the mountains of northern Vietnam and offers breath-taking views over the mountain range. From here we did a 4 day trek into the mountains. So on with the walking boots and out with the shampoo... nice! Each evening we stayed with a different tribe family, who were, on the whole, extremely friendly. The first night was undoubtedly the best. After dinner we were invited to join the family for rice wine (extremely intoxicating, especially if you are 5ft) and buffalo stomach!!!! I think i had a bit too much of the rice wine, compensating for refusing to eat the buffalo stomach. I didn't want to offend afterall!! We are now back in Sapa, and staying in yet another amazing Guest house. This evening we are paying a wopping 3 pounds a night... There is an open wood fire in our room and unbelievable views over the mountains. can't complain! It is quite chilly here as we are very high up. In fact we are currently in the middle of a cloud. Has made us feel a wee bit homesick...but if music can't evoke emotion, whats the point? right...
