Today started out fairly slowly. We had to leave for the airport at around 9.30 to catch our 1pm flight to Singapore, so we got up fairly early to make sure we had all our things packed and ready to go. That done, we had croissants and pastries for breakfast with the family, and said our thank you's and farewells and had a group photo.
Paul took the two of us to the airport as Sarah, Jack and Asha went to church. In Nepal, church is on a Saturday and so everywhere is shut, including shops. Sunday is just like another weekday here and everything is open. Only the International Church happens on a sunday, and this is where most of the ex-pats go, because it is in English. The family go to their local Nepali church though which means they have to translate for Jack and Asha and they are in charge of the Sunday School, which despite being on a Saturday still keeps that name!
We arrived and got through the airport with no problem, until we reached the departure desk where they stamp your visa. As usual, we chose the completely worst queue and were there for ages because we got behind 2 Buddhist monks and the man at the counter kept getting up and walking away to talk to his supervisor. So, if ever you find yourself in a queue, make sure there's no Buddhist monks in front of you!
When we got through to the departure lounge, i went into the shop that sells snacks. I was told by an American lady on her way out, not to get a muffin because she had just seen a cockroach on the plate - lovely! However, i did see pizza flavoured pringles which i think Ami would like!
We then piled onto a bus to take us to the plane, which was all of 30m away and the journey took all of 30 seconds. To put it into perspective, our drive at home is about 20m long, so it was a short journey!
What a funny way to end our time in Nepal.
We had a fairly uneventful flight to Singapore, where we are now, ready to fly to Fukuoka in Japan (yes we know it has a funny name) at 1am.
Speak soon!! xx
