Today was a day full of workshops. I wrote up a little blurb about each of the ones I attended.
Morning Sessions:
Saree Draping - we had the opportunity to interact with the delegates from India while they shared with us an important aspect of their culture. We learned not only the process, but also more details about their religion and culture. Connecting with the host country on this level put emphasis on the international aspect of World Congress and how important it is to appreciate each Country's contribution to this organization.
Patient Counseling Workshop - after covering the main components of an effective patient counsel, students had the opportunity to practice their skills, while others contributed input for counsel construction. One of our APhA-ASP delegates, Ron, was the first volunteer to practice a counseling interaction. We then had the opportunity to sign up for the Patient Counseling Competition, in which three of our APhA-ASP delegates will be competing: Christine, Ron, and myself.
Afternoon Sessions:
Introduction to Compounding - the workshop host gave a wonderful presentation on topical compound policy and procedure. It was an excellent introduction for students who may have never been exposed to compounding before to understand the importance of compounding and its place in health care today. A compounding competition will be taking place on August 7 at G. Pullareddy College of Pharmacy.
IPSF 7 Minutes to Inspire - after watching a clip from a talk given by Sekou Andrews, we broke into groups to try and give our own 7 minute inspiration speeches. The groups covered topics such as Equality, Preventative Health, Investment, and many others, and were all successful in learning how to inspire others.
The day was quite interesting. I'm excited for the counseling competition because that is something I've been told I am quite good at. I also wanted to do the compounding competition because I don't have much experience with that, but the compound they will be making is just crushing a tablet and putting it in a cream and there is far travel involved, and there are other things I am interesting in doing during that afternoon.
We went shopping for our sarees for the Indian night tomorrow. The one I got is green and sparkly (so typical) and I am so excited! We took the suggestion of stores from some girls from Canada who bought theirs there. They took measurements for the top that goes underneath. The one that comes with my saree is green, but I wanted one that pops so I got an additional silver one. I think it will be worth it.
The night event was a neon/lab coat party where everyone wrote on each others' lab coats. I felt really horrible and our industrial visit is tomorrow and we leave at 7am so I didn't want to get a bad-night's sleep, so I took it easy and went to bed after dinner. Hopefully I wake up feeling much better!
I didn't take any pictures today, so today's event picture is from yesterday's adventure at the fort!
