Finally a computer that works ! Got to Lake Baikal in the end after booking a bus ticket the previous day , i was a bit unsure whether i'd actually get there or not as the destination said MCS not Olhkon . But the most miserable babuska in the world , ensured me it was right , so who was i to argue ! On the minibus , after stopping at every 5 house village halfway up the side of a mountain the bus arrived at MCS , after 4 hours . Which after all was only 3/4 of the way to Olhkon . Before i could ask the driver how i was supposed to get the rest of the way , he'd jumped back in the minibus and was heading back to Irkutsk !!! leaving me in the middle of nowhere !!! After a while a man came out of his house , obviously wondering why he'd got a fat Englishman wondering lost outside his house . After about 30 minutes of give us a clue , i managed to get that there was another bus at 3 ( in 2 hours ) , with that he went back inside . Only to come back out and give me a massive frozen fish he'd caught in the lake , ice fishing . It was i nice gesture but i'm not sure what he thought i'd be able to do with it . I'd rather he let side far a warm . It was -14 outside . The minibus eventually got me and the fish to the island , where as soon as i got there they sorted me some dinner , and sorted me out with a banya (russian sauna) . I spent 5 days there , it was only meant to be 2 but there's only a couple of buses a week off the island and the first one was full . So i had to stop for another 3 days . It was a hard life , in a log cabin with a wood burning stove , all to myself , with 3 hot meals a day and a banya each day for 12 pounds a night . Spent my time wondering the forests and going out on the ice , plus a couple of tours .It was an amazing place with half the island coverd with forest , and the worlds deepest lake frozen to about 1m deep . Driving and walking on the ice was very wierd , especially as you could see clean through the ice into the lake . The only way of getting on or off the island was to drive across Lake Baikal itself !! Spent one more night back in Irkutsk drinking in a bar called Liverpool ! then headed off on the overnight train to Ulan - Ude to see the worlds biggest Lenin head , which was good . However the rest of the city was by far the dirtiest , most polluted dump i've ever been to . Every other person , no matter what time of day seemed to be absolutely rat arsed !! Glad i only spent one night there , before the 4 day 3 night train to Vladivostok . Where the only way of talking to anyone was by playing give us a clue ! And everyone wanted to play give us a clue with the stupid Englishman . Even the deaf bloke who's ever give us a clue involved his cock! He kept insissting on an arm wrestle with me , when i finally gave in , and beat him with my right and left arm . He wasn't happy . At least it shut him up for a bit . Got to Vladivostok bang on time , and it's a very nice place . Even though everythings on top of massive hills . It's only a small place so i've seen all the sights in about a day and a half . It's a port city , thats alot more modern that i expected , considering forgeiners were banned until about 25 years ago ! I've spent 7 nights in total on the train between Moscow and Vladivostok , and can't go any further in Russia , and it's only cost me 85 pounds . Cheap at half the price . Off on the bus to Harbin , China in the morning at 4 am local time , on the bus should take about 1 day . Hopefully i'll be able to get some pictures on there as i haven't been able to anywhere in Siberia . Pa-Ka ( bye )
