My Patronus is a Plane
Since my parents really wanted to come back to Singapore, I didn't want my summer to go to waste, so I decided to do an internship while here. I really wanted to work at Universal Studios back in Orlando but sadly, since I was leaving for 2 months to come to Singapore, I wasn't able to get the job. This included a lot of other engineering jobs that were being offered back home in Orlando. As it is my last summer and chance to do an internship, I asked my dad to find one for me in Singapore through his connections. However, all of the engineering internships wanted 5 months or more which is impossible as I only have 3 and a half months of vacation. This was disappointing, but one of my dad's friends offered me a job at his office in the National University of Singapore at the Office of Alumni Relations. While this isn't engineering related, I am at least happy to have something to put on my resume and my summer will not go to waste.
This internship is the reason why we are staying at NUS. This morning was my first day of work and I was honestly rather nervous. The lobby of my building is absolutely gorgeous, though. Every corner had something pretty and sentimental. There is also a lot of greenery surrounding the building.
I met the director who is my dad's friend and a close family friend and was then introduced to the person who will lead me in my internship. I just refer to her as my boss. Over e-mail, she seemed pretty intimidating, but meeting her was pleasant and she has a really sweet persona. She explained what I needed to do and I got straight to work. It was pretty boring at first, but I'm getting the hang of things and am excited to see what will come of this. To top it off, my colleagues are some of the nicest people and very down-to-earth. Even though I can't help but feel distraught at not being able to work at Universal Studios, I am lucky to have such great people to work with.
