Please look at the Week Two Album :)

Oi! Today at work was great because I was given an opportunity to practice ACL with Sergio, a first year audit assistant at Deloitte. At USC, I briefly learned ACL in Porter's 371 class, but it was great take that existing knowledge and dive deeper with hands on experience. At first I watched how he did it to review and then we split up the work. In addition to ACL, I footed some more financial documents.
After work, I wanted to relax so I ordered room service at the hotel and stayed in. I also talked to the Sao Paulo GIP interns and we planned for the upcoming weekend! We will be traveling to Campos do Jordao! :)

At work, I helped Sergio with ACL again. We found an error while consolidating the documents. We had no idea what went wrong, but we soon realized that since my laptop was issued in the US, and the formatting of some items in Brazil are different, the documents that we worked on were not compatible. For example, periods and commas are switched and dates are written differently. "1,234,567.89" in the US would be "1.234.567,89" and August 1st in the US would be "08/01/2014", and in Brazil its "01.08.2014". The first day I went shopping I was very thrown off because the price tag in the window of the store said "$R 160,00". I thought 16 THOUSAND Reals($) for a dress?! I later realized it was $R 160 which makes it approximately $73 USD.
After work, I went to an event with Raquel and her boyfriend, Dan (who just moved here from the UK). It was hosted by InterNations, an organization that connects people who are not originally from Brazil, but currently live here. The event was great and the people were all so interesting with their unique stories of why they moved to Brazil.
There is now a running joke about me and the language barrier in Brazil when it comes to food. I'm still not sure if I am saying the food wrong with an incorrect accent, or if the food is just called different things here. Whenever I order, I point to the item on the menu and tell the waiter and most of the time, things work out. However in Sao Paulo, I ordered a waffle and a tapioca-doce de leite crepe was delivered to my table and it happened again at the InterNations event where I ordered a chicken crepe, and ended up with something similar to lasagna! All of the food has been great, and I am excited to see what surprise I get next time there's a miscommunication. Maybe I'll order lasagna and receive a waffle and have it come around full circle ;)

Work today was very similar to the previous two days, except this time we figured out how to change my system settings to be compatible with Brazilian formatting (I have to remember to switch it back when I go back to LA).
After work I went to dinner at Rock & Road in Cambui. It was such a great atmosphere with futbol playing on the TVs and a live cover band playing 80s songs! It was so fun to sing along with all the songs once we finished eating!

At work, I worked with Sergio again on ACL. Based on the document we consolidated, we made random selections for testing.
After work, my part of the team from CCR took me to Catedral de Chopp, a beautiful (and delicious) restaurant in Campinas. There we ordered Bolinho de Abobora and 2 Brazilian pizzas for the table. The pizzas we ordered were not traditional cheese and pepperoni. We ordered one with ham, onions, mozzarela and another with cream cheese, chicken, and a little tomato sauce (my favorite!)

Tomorrow (8/1), I am going to work a full day at CCR in Jundiai, then take the bus to Sao Paulo to meet up with the other GIP interns. Saturday, we will travel to Campos do Jordao, the "Little Switzerland" of Brazil! It is a little town in the mountains in the state of Sao Paulo and I can't wait to share my experiences with the beautiful architecture and the famous fondue! :)
Tchau!
