hey everyone
Left London on wednesday the 14th of oct. as the employment opportunities there look about as promising as a supermodel giving me a call.
I flew to Paris from london and spent 6 nights there before flying to Berlin on Tuesday (20/10). Paris was probably the most beautiful city I have visited on my travels so far. Didn't quite get to every art museum but i did manage a visit to the louvre (which is absolutely enormous and I would have had to of spent days there to actually see everything). I climbed the eiffel tower at sunset one afternoon and watched the sunset which was amazing although a storm came across as i was climbing. I also climbed the arc de triomphe...not too sure which is the main attraction there - the arc itself or the crazy roundabout around it. Also managed a visit to Notre Dame, and St. Michel by day and night.
I also took a day trip to Versailles where I did a tour of Chateau De Versailles. This is the old royal palace which was once home to the infamous Queen Marie Antionette, a couple of thousand King Henry's and King Louis'. One of the rooms in the chateau is the hall of mirrors which is quite stunning and was the room where the Treaty of Versailles was signed. aka the room where World War I ended - the peace treaty between germany and the allies. The gardens at the chateau were also very amazing although i didnt feel the need to pay an extra 8 euro to see them.
I did a self-guided walking tour of the Montmartre area (printed off the interent which saved me 30 euro). This included a walk down the famous Boulevard De Clichy which is the sex strip of Paris, including the Moulin Rouge. Also saw the apartments of Van Gough's brother where he put up his brother when he was in paris. Breathtaking views from the Sacre Couer as well as the old home of some bloke called Picasso. think he was a footy player, not sure. (that was a joke mum, dont call!).
So I got to Berlin on Tuesday and am staying with 9 others in a decent sized apartment. They got this place for a month after the residents moved to their california house for a while (as you do on the odd month). although they only think there r 3 people staying here as opposed to 10 - or 11. Everyone here is just chilling out. None of them r up before midday, so it is a welcome change to the hustle and bustle of constant sightseeing in every new city I get to. I did a walking tour of berlin yesterday. This involved checkpoint charlie, the brandenbourg gate, Reichstag, the holocaust memorial, the location of hitler's residence and bunker (which i proudly spat on), as well as all the amazing architecture which i am understanding is everywhere in europe - aka old churches, universities, houses of parliament etc. We did also see the famous hotel where the king of pop dangled a baby out of the window - very exciting. Think I will do a pub crawl tonight and every1 at the house is going out on saturday night to the club which has been voted the best club in the world for the past 2 years.
That's enough from me, hope everyone is well...goodluck to those of you who have exams coming up at uni.
Love Mike
