What a cool day!! We left our hotel to embark on a round trip of mount Rigi... We caught a ferry that took us across the beautiful calmness of lake lucerne, then boarded a 'mountain train' that took us 1880 meters up to the top of the mountain... The scenery is like nothing else I have ever seen before... I feel almost repetitive, each place we have visited has been so amazing, but this place is so beautiful, it almost looks fake... We sat on the oldest mountain rail in Europe as it took us, albeit very slowly, up steep straights and turns until we reached the summit... Which, covered in icy snow, was way more lethal than it looked- Gran, you were right, I really needed good soles on my boots! We stepped off the train and within two minutes it was clearly evident that my boots just were not going to cut it... Slipping and sliding about everywhere on snow that was icy, a trip to the 'shop for the tourists' was in order... The best $36 I have ever spent saw me strapping snow studs
To my boots so that I could at least move around without the caution of a 90 year old!!
We sent some time walking around, taking some awesome shots and sitting at your typical 'top of the mountain' Swiss hotel for some refreshments... Then came the next phase- tobogganing!! What excellent fun! We whizzed down a trail that took us to the station below the summit where we just caught the train back up to the summit to do it all over again- no lugging toboggans back up the hill- fabulous!
We spent a good couple of hours doing this, until poor mos took a tumble that he managed to capture on video- I think you will love it!! Our trip home was comprised of taking a cable car back down the mountain, then hopping back on the boat which took us home to lucerne... Which we leave today- this afternoon we are heading to vienna... Mos has snow boarding on this agenda, I plan on more ice skating... I don't think he'll be keen to join me.... As promised though, I'm keen to give skiing a go, so hopefully in vienna or Munich, there'll be a chance to tick that off the list:-) lots of love and cuddles to you all xxx
