We were picked up today by Methley and the Safari team ready for our 4 hour journey towards Arusha and the Ngorangora Crater. On the way we passed though a town nicknamed Mosquito town, I wont explain why but it's safe to say we didnt get out and have a look around there! We also saw so many young boys walking along the road with their faces covered in white paint and black markings. Our guide told us that they were part of a celebration where the boys have to travel to another village to be circumcised where they then become men. They then have to walk back to their own village with the face paint to let people know they were now men and allowed to marry. The difference in cultures here are simply fasinating!
Arrived at the safari campsite, you can really feel how high we are due to the change in temperatures- it was freezing! We had a beautiful meal cooked for us and then we sat around the fire before heading to bed, right after a slight commotion from James' tent where he had found a giant beetle (and I thought he was hard).
Monday 6th August- Its Safari Day! Woke up at 6am packed up our tents and headed towards the Ngorongora Crater.
I have genuinely never seen such beautiful views as I saw from the top of the crater, truely breathtaking. I have taken so many pictures of the same thing- I just want everyone at home to be able to see how gorgeous it was- you never can through a photo though. Today has been one of the best days, we have seen so many animals, lions, hippos, (a very distant) rhino, hyenas, flamingos, ostriches, and my absolute favourite, two elephants- I was like a child- if we didnt see any other animal I would have been happy just to see an elephant. Could have stayed in the crater for so much longer but had to make our way back to Moshi ready to head towards the mountains and our school project in the morning.
