Last night we stayed in a Hostel in Nairobi- I cant tell you how amazing it felt to sleep in a bed, although after all of the stories I've heard about Nairobi I think my nerves enjoyed sleeping in the middle of the masai mara with only a tent for protection more!
Today we crossed the border into Tanzania which took 8 hours by bus. The border was chaotic- I'm afraid to say we all had to get rather bolshy just to keep our place in the queue! Once in Tanzania I was surprised to see that Tanzania was quite different to Kenya- it seemed much friendlier which I didnt think was possible! On our way to the campsite in Moshi we had our first sighting of Kilimanjaro- it was breath taking! James is in my ear already about wanting to climb it next year and trying to persuade me to join him... after the drama of Mount Longonot he must be joking!
Throughout the journey there are so many women carrying fruits in baskets on their heads- so, so beautiful.
For the next few days we have a chance to catch our bearings and have a look around Moshi- a gorgeous old German colonial town. I do wish we had slightly longer here. To get into the town we had our first experience of Dala dalas, I have never seen so many people crammed into one vehicle- it is one way of getting to know people though, I had children sitting on my lap and had a chance to practice my very limited Swahili with some locals... this involved a lot of smiling and nodding once I'd exhaused my limit of Jambo! Masuri Sana! (hello, how are you?) Whilst in the town we were sat for a drink and a beautiful procession drove past for a wedding celebration- I have never seen anything like it- it look so fun, there were men sitting on the back of trucks playing tumpets- all dressed in beautiful colours!
Once back at the campsite we were all pretty exhausted and needed a good nights sleep ready for the Safari day tomorow, although we did get a sneaky peak at the Olympics- We have missed so much since being away- wouldnt swap it for the world though!
