Its been a tiresome 3 days... and we have finally found an Internet cafe :) woooo!! The 11 and a half hour flight was exhausting and we only managed less than four hours sleep and it didn't help to see as we were slowly descending through the clouds that the weather was rubbish (raining). We arrived at Narita Airport at around 9.30am and were glad to find that our luggage was still with us and not at terminal 5 back in London!! We realised that our hotel was an hour and a half away from the airport by train (this was very very difficult to find out as there was no signs in english and no-one can speak english very well). We arrived at Shinagawa station - this was our first change for Kamata (where our hotel was) this was such a crazy experience!! - we had no idea what train to get on, there are like a million trains operating at that station all in japanese. when we found the line we needed - it was easy. By this point we were soooo knackered we couldn't wait to find our hotel. When we reached Kamata Station we didn't know where to start. The hotel told us originally that there was a map by the west exit of the station - we couldn't find this anywhere and as no one could speak english so we decided to get a taxi - to then find out we were literally 2 mins away haha. We checked in and the staff are lovely! - very basic english but very very polite and helpful Once we got into our room - we went straight to sleep for a few hours, woke up and Morgan thought it was 6am the next day... haha... it was infact 6pm.We were so hungry and saw a dominos leaflet and got a pepperoni pizza and some fried chicken haha and went back to sleep again. We both kept waking up and started watching TV. Nothing was in english and was all very very cheesy even the adverts. But had fun attempting to understand it all. On Thursday we got up at 630am and got all ready to go out. We decided to check out central Tokyo. The trains were rammed. Could possibly be worse than London trains. Sarah-Jane almost blacked out on the train (no need to worry mam it was only for a couple of minutes until we got of the train). The building of the train station is a big tourist point as it is so huge. Unfortunately there's loads of construction work around it and couldn't get a decent photo. So we headed for the Imperial Palace and no one was allowed in so we went to the Imperial Palace's East Garden, which was beautiful, might we add. We managed to even get a photo of the Tokyo Tower from a far view. After all that walking we went to Shinjuku to see the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which on the 45th floor you can see the whole of Tokyo. We took loads of photos. But before that we had a bite to eat at...........McDonalds. So far we haven't eaten anything Japanese how shocking. We saw a sign for the Subaru Building thinking it was something interesting. But we were wrong it was just offices and restraunts. We went back to the hotel to drop our bags so we could get a bite to eat. It was so hard finding a place since all the menus had no english and no one could speak it either. Luckily we were stood outside a restraunt and this girl told us to go to her mum's restraunt and would help us order. We were so relieved, we even got a free starter and a soup - awesome. Today we had another busy day. We decided to go to Ueno. This had a zoo, which had a giant panda (this was the only reason we went). When we got there and paid we found out that Ling-Ling the Panda died on the 30th of April 2008 - we felt well gutted, but decided to make the most of it and walk around. Sarah-Jane was sad to see all the massive cool animals in tiny tiny cages. All the animals looked sedated which was a shame but they did come close, which was cool. The funniest part was when we got to the polar bear section. We started taking photos but all of a sudden they started to get a bit frisky (if you know what we mean) which Morgan decided to video haha.
After the zoo we ventured out to Ueno Park where we visited out first Shrine (we will update the name of it next time we come online as all our info is back at the hotel). The shrine was really pretty but weren't allowed to take photos inside. We did take some of the outside though. We walked for what seemed miles and miles to a temple which was on the map. We left Ueno park in search for this temple, which seemed non existent so turned around for miles and miles and got to another temple instead (again we will update you on the name on the next one).
And that has been our journey so far. We have spent over an hour writing this as the computer is also in japanese, funny that haha. Hope all is well with everyone at home and will update you all soon. We tried adding all our photos but its taking too long and the computer crashed so we'll try to add them all next time.
