Arriving in Boston having successfully slept most of the journey, minus the somewhat scary border crossing back in to USA, we find our hostel and make a plan for the day over our brekkie. Heading out with great intentions to begin the freedom trail we find ourselves in the public gardens laying in the sun snoozing!! Ooops. Even with our impromptu nap mid morning we still managed to head to the esplanade and see a few sights before heading back to the hostel to check in properly.
A friend we has met in Australia last year just so happened to be in Boston too, so we had arranged to go out for some drinks. Blinky and I owed him a birthday drink and thought Tequila was a good choice!! It definitely was not! A fun night was followed by a not so fun morning! Not to be deterred I ventured into Boston to follow as much of the Freedom Trail as I could manage in the time I had. Seeing the State Buildings, Quincy Markets, the Granary Burial Ground amongst other sites. Boston really is a beautiful place with so much history.
Our final morning in Boston was allocated to a free tour of Harvard University. Our tour guide meets us from the hostel and we set off to the metro station. Arriving at the Uni the tour guide fills us with little hope of a good tour when she can't even remember the names of the streets we were standing on! The generous people we are we give her a bit longer to get into her stride. Well this doesn't really happen. We were presented with quotes such as 'I won't talk about the architecture because it is what it is!'. It was pretty cool to see the prestigious Uni though. After the tour we say our farewells to Matt (our fellow jetsetting friend) and head off to grab our bags before catching the train to New York City.
(I have to admit I do feel disappointed that we didn't see more of such a lovely place but I will definitely be visiting Boston again and I will definitely NOT be drinking Tequila or Sambuca!)
