We departed IL early July 6th and headed toward central WI; along the route we stopped at a very quaint town called Cottage Grove to refuel. Nothing out of the ordinary until we pulled in to the gas station. There was a woman sitting in her car, in front of the diesel pump, texting. We assumed she was waiting for someone to come out. After a few minutes and she made no effort to move or back up or even acknowledge we were there waiting, Dan got out and politely asked her if she could move back a few feet so we could begin fueling. She said, "No, I'm busy." That did not set well with me so I got out of the truck, knocked on her window and asked her to move from the diesel pump; once again, she said she was in the middle of something. My first instinct was to jerk her out of her car and beat her ass to a pulp but my second instinct was, "I don't look good in hand cuffs"! So I opted for the third solution...I went inside and asked very loudly if anyone was with the woman sittiing in front of the diesel pump; no one answered so I told the manager she was loosing lots of diesel business because some woman refused to move her car from in front of the pump. Needless to say, the manager went outside and had her move. She was not a happy person and even drove around the parking lot a few times; so to agg it on, I took out my camera and mimiced taking pictures of her, her car and her tag # (my camera was broken). She finally left but not without everyone else at the station knowing and agreeing how rude and inconsiderate she was. So this story goes to prove that even in the homiest of towns, there lives an a******.
We finally made it to our camp at Ox Creek Campground. It is located on Buffalo Lake, which the Fox River runs through it. There are lots of hiking trails, lakes, rivers and streams in the area and it was the boyhood hometown of John Muir, one of the founding fathers of the National Park System. The valley was actually formed by Ice Glaciers thousands of years ago.
Fox River was used by Indians, trade furriers and early settlers and has changed very little over the decades. The hike up Observatory Hill was a must-see and do just as hiking the Fox River.
There never seems to be enough time to do all and see all our beautiful country has to offer. Tomorrow we head toward The Apostle National Lakeshore area in northern Wisconsin.
