Austria!!!
So while I was in Munich I was fortunate enough to go to Salzburg in Austria with my friend Adriana...I had no idea it was so close but its only like an hour and a half from Munich by train. Its where Mozart was born and its famous for The Sound of Music. It really does look that pretty; I reckon it would be a perfec t honeymoon spot...theres Clydesdale horses trotting about, people who play the violin to Mozarts music, a castle and lots of pretty as old buildings! And even a lil river thing that passes through the city. And coz I was there in winter theres bits of snow round the place which makes it look even prettier! The lil ponds we came across where there were statues in the middle etc were even frozen over it was that cold!
Its one of those cities where you don’t need to do anything much but just walk around and be amazed by its beauty. Walking around the castle was nice (although I felt like I was gonna die walking up the massive hill in jeans and gumboots!), and then there was a park beside there and a view straight across of the Alps and completely snow covered mountains.
There was a parade in the middle of the day and soldier ppl walking down the street with cannons...was a little random but it was New Years Eve so apparently that was why. Then while we were walking in the park and returning back down to the flat land in the city we heard and saw these bomb things going off. At first I thought it was fireworks as everyone was already doing fireworks even though it was only the middle of the day, however then I saw that they were way too big and too powerful to just be fireworks. I was so curious and it reminded me of my experience when Ive never been so scared in my life when I was in Mexico and I thought there was a war or the Mexican Revolution going on again outside my window with all the church bells ringing etc and I thought there were guns and bombs going off everywhere and I was soo soooo scared.
I zoomed down the hill to see and I happened to be standing right in the way where the soldiers were letting off the canon things (a guy quickly pushed me outta the way). There were about 30 ppl in groups of 5 spread out round the high parts of the city shooting out these canons for approx 40 mins at intervals of like every 2 mins. They were so loud they could’ve burst your eardrums I swear (it hurt oven with my fingers in my ears!), and you could feel it in your chest when they let them off. You could see the gunpowder and the fire exploding and all when they released them. I was so fascinated I tried to take photos but I got such a fright each time that I absolutely couldn’t get the timing right as my hand kept shaking way too much and they came out as a blur. I had an umbrella too coz it was raining and every time they let them off everyone could see me get a fright coz the umbrella shook heaps...it really was hilarious and it annoyed me that I couldn’t even get one good photo!!
It was a nice as place to visit though and easy as to do in a day trip!!
