Perge
Perga or Perge (Hittite: Parha, Greek: Πέργη Perge, Turkish: Perge) was originally an ancient Lycian settlement that later became a Greek city in Pamphylia.Over time, the city came under the rule of Lydia and Persia, and in 334 BC, it surrendered to Alexander the Great. However, the city's golden era occurred during the Roman Empire's reign between the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE. Perga's most celebrated ancient inhabitant was the mathematician Apollonius (c.262 BC – c.190 BC) who lived and worked there. It the vast remains of what was once the most propserous city of the ancient world. The Archaeological site of Perge has been excavated systemically by Istanbul University since 1946.
