Gallipoli
Private Leslie Wallis of the 16th Battalion (Western Australia) was one of the few to reach the crest of the hill known as the Bloody Angle. Shortly after dawn, the 16th was forced from its newly won trenches. The battalion landed at Gallipoli with more than 1000 men. After 9 days of continuous fighting, only 309 remained.
