Cape du Couedic Lighthouse and three roomy lighthouse keeper's cottages built in 1907 from local limestone, and the lighthouse station opened in 1909. It was not until 1940 that the first motor vehicle visited.In 1957 the lighthouse was automated with the conversion to acetylene gas operation and at the same time was demanned.In 1974 the lighthouse was converted to electric operation. It was sold to the Flora and Fauna Board of South Australia in 1959.In 1991 the lightkeepers cottages were restored and made available for holiday rental.
