Macgillivray has a recorded population of 117 residents MacGillivray Post Office opened in 1909 and closed in 1952. It is the home of Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery (which we did not visit) which has been a popular Kangaroo Island tourist attraction. since 1991. Eucalyptus oil was Australia’s first true export overseas and one of Kangaroo Islands major industries. Emu Ridge is now the only remaining commercial eucalyptus oil distillery in South Australia.
