Lekeitio with a very long fishing tradition is mid-way between Bilbao and San Sebastian. Lekeitio was known for its brave whale hunters. This lasted from the Middle Ages up until the 18th century. With the passing of time, whales started to disappear but fishing and maritime related activities continued.
