Vicentina de la Torre , is camagüeyana, and was the founder of the Ballet of Camagüey and teacher of many generations of Cuban dancers. In 1975, Fernando Alonso, founder of the Cuban School of Ballet, ex-husband of Alicia Alonso, and internationally known, took over directorship of the ballet. He left in 1992 to go to Mexico.
