Cuban politician who became president of the Republic of Cuba in Arms of 1873 to 1875 . He was a supporter of the independence of Cuba, was part of the Liberating Society created in Camaguey to fix the preparations for the revolution. At the outbreak of the Ten Years' War , he gave freedom to his slaves and put their goods to the service of Cuban independence. The statue, created in Italy, was erected in 1928.
