In 2009, property conservation was started and the building was declared a national monument. Alvaro Morell Alvarez (Charles) who, from the ranks of the July 26th Movement, was subjected to several arrests highlighted, then joined the Sierra Maestra , up from military training in Mexico in January 1958 , to return to the Island on an expedition and resume the armed struggle. In this mission he would fall into the Gulf of Mexico, the 26 of April of 1958 .
