Guernika Peace Museum - El Cristo de Guernika
Born in Gernika, Luis Iriondo was 13 years old on the day of the bombing. He worked at the Banco de Bilbao as a recadista when the bombing began. He was in one of the underground shelters of the Pasileku from where he went to Lumo and witnessed the devastating fire in the village. He was evacuated to Bilbao, later to France and returned years later to Gernika. He is a painter, "amateur," he smiles, he who was a draftsman in a goldsmith company. Some of his paintings are hung in the museum.
