Monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus) The sculpture, inaugurated on June 26, 1927, consists of a tall pedestal with reliefs topped by a statue of the Sacred Heart. In 1933, the municipal socialist group requested the withdrawal of the image because Spain was a secular country, because of the scant support received by the erection of the monument at the time of the dictatorship and because it had been promoted by the Society of Jesus, which in That moment had been expelled from the country. The City Council approved the demolition of the City Council, with the opposition of the monarchists and the PNV, although the agreement was temporarily suspended by an appeal lodged before the courts and never came to be applied.
