I was unable to get a reservation to visit the winery, but did walk through the gift shop to figure out how to bypass the incredibly strict security guard who would not let me walk up the driveway to the building behind. The City of Wine is part of Project 2000 , the company's strategic plan, a bridge between the 19th and the 21st centuries. The complex, located in Elciego (Álava), is made up of the old Marqués de Riscal winery (1858), one of the oldest in Rioja, as well as a new building designed by the Canadian architect, Frank O. Gehry.
