The church is erected in 1537 as the seat of the parish of the same name, by Diego of Siloam, the most renowned artist of that time in the area. It was placed on the site where once stood the mosque Almanzora. The tower was built between 1561 and 1563 The church is located in the center of n the Islamic period, it was an independant suburb of the Medina.
