Catedral de la Encarnación de Guadix
In 1930, Manuel Martínez-Carrasco Reyes y Almansa, director of the Spanish College of Bologna , acquired a reproduction of Michelangelo 's Vatican Pietà , the original of which is in St. Peter's Basilica . The sculpture was moved to the church of Santiago de Guadix to be installed in his family pantheon. However, the work was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War Its remains were found in 1970. In 2001, , the sculptor María Ángeles Lázaro Guil restored the sculpture, which was moved from the church of Santiago to the cathedral of Guadix.. I chose not to pay the extra money to see the Pieta but took these pictures from a film shown in the cahtedral.
