Mirador de Janovas
Abandoned village belowThe inhabitants left the place between 1960 and 1970 owing to the pressure induced by the Spanish ‘National Institute for Forestal Recovery’ that had bought the land. In the 1950s the Spanish government planned to built a huge reservoir and dam along the river Ara whouch would have caused forced removal of families in Janovas and other small towns. The government slowly started destroying the area. In the early 2000s it was discovered the project did not meet regulations and was stopped in 2005.
