Bult in true Stalinist style ( there are similar buildings in Moscow and St. Petersburg), this was a gift in 1955 from the Soviet Union . It is the tallest building in Poland and the 8th tallest in the European Union. The building was originally known as the Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki imienia Józefa Stalina), but in the wake of destalinization the dedication to Stalin was revoked
