This was a tiny building with a display of some tombstones (no photo) and this wall art. It dates to the late 14th century. It is thought the Jewish community dates back to the founding of Buda in 1241-2 with the defeat of the Mongols by King Bela IV. Archaelogical excavations have unearthed the synagogue, mikvah, houses, and cemetery near the "Jewish gate". The Jewish community was considered property of King Bela IV. They paid taxes to the king and were protected by him. The Jews were expelled for a short time in the 1300s by King Louis the Great. In the early 15th century the Jewish quarter was terminated when the Royal Palace was constructed in the neighborhood. In 1541,the Ottomans conquered the town and allowed the Jews to return. In 1686, the army of the anti-Ottoman Christian League conquered the town. Most Jews were killed or captured.
