Monument to the Soviet liberation of Hungary in World War II from Nazi German occupation
The monument is made up of an obelisk with a crest showing the Communist hammer and sickle. At the bottom is a bas-relief of Soviet soldiers engaged in battle. The obelisk is capped with a five-pointed Communist star. There was some talk in the 1990's of taking the monument down but Russia protested that soldiers are buried under it. The Hungarian government let the memorial stand due to a treaty signed between Hungary and Russia.
