My new friend Maria who I met at breakfast in my hotel. She was adorned with Jewish jewelry, but is German and not Jewish and a regular participant at the Jewish Cultural Festival. She was a teacher of theology and religion, spent the summer of 1973 on a kibbutz in Israel, and was part of the first group of German teachers to institute the required curriculum to teach German youth about the holocaust.
