Later in 1942, a concentration camp for children was created in a separate area of the ghetto, with an estimated 1,600 children passing through. Inside the camp, children were forced to do menial labor and subjected to impoverished conditions. till other children managed to live inside the ghetto until it was liquidated in 1944. Lodz’s Jews, many of them children, were sent on to concentration camps like Auschwitz.
