The big factories not only provided jobs but also were a place where, thanks to the owners and workers initiative, sport clubs and circles of interest were organized. The strikes of the factory workers in 1892 and in 1905-1907 in particular forced the factory owners and city authorities to allow the workers to unite in trade unions. Moreover, the factory owners wanted to streamline their employees attention away from the social problems towards more „safe” activities like culture. That was the reason for organizing different cultural initiatives for working class.
