Neskaupstaður is a town located on the fjord Norðfjörður on the eastern side of Iceland, against the Norwegian Sea. Population 1481. Norðfjörður became an official trading point in 1895, when a village had already begun to form there. The evolution of the urban area began with a robust saltfish production in 1870 which further supported the fishing industry Neskaupstaður is also home to the Vocational School of East Iceland and the the regional hospital of East Iceland The museum building "Safnahúsið" in Neskaupsstaður This building includes 3 museums: 1) Tryggvi Collection An impressive introduction to the art of painter Tryggvi Ólafsson 2) The Natural History Museum Beautiful collection of Icelandic birds, shellfish and stones.3)Exhibition of Jósafat Hinriksson´s collection and maritime and handicraft arts.
