Raja Serfoji II Bhonsle (1777-1832) was the last ruler of the Bhonsle, estaablished a zoo, established a school where science, language, literature, and the arts were studied, built rest houses for weary pilgrims, erected a shipyard and a meteorological station to assist with trade, enriched the existing library, implemented underground water drainage for the city of Thanguvar, established a research instition that produced herbal medicijne for people and animals, and performed ophthalmoloci operations.
