Barcelona Gothic Quarter Placa San Miguel Monument to the Castellers
"Els castells" is a typically Catalan tradition that is about making human towers. Its origins date back to the seventeenth century and it seems that it came from a Valencian dance. On holidays in the adjacent Placa Sant Jaume, the tradition continues to make human towers. Stainless steel grows in a pyramidal shape simulating a castell that wants to touch the sky. This monument measuring around thirty meters high was protested in the neighborhood at the time of its inauguration, in February 2012.
